90’s Songs We Forgot About

Does Anyone Remember These Songs?
Hi, my name is Rachel and I’m an addict. No, I’m not addicted to any type of substance or narcotic, but what I am addicted to is 90’s alternative rock. I think everyone tends to favor the decade of music that they grew up listening to, and for me, that was the wonderful 90’s decade of the grunge rock genre.
My days as a teen were spent sitting in my room (which of course, had dozens of rock star posters covering the walls) wearing my ripped jeans and band t-shirt (with a long sleeve shirt underneath, obviously) rocking out to the latest electrifying, distortion-pumping, scream infested rock jam that covered the airwaves of Boston’s most popular rock stations.
I don’t know what in God’s name happened to all my fellow 90’s music lovers, but it seems like there is a collection of 90’s songs that no one else, besides me, seems to remember. They wouldn’t even classify as one-hit wonders because most of them didn’t chart at all, but there is a series of songs that covered the radio and MTV for a brief period of time, and then just phased out and disappeared. But once in a great while, I’ll hear one of them on the radio station and jump around in excitement because I know I’m not alone. Somewhere out there, there’s another 90’s music lover who called the radio station to request a song that most have long forgotten about.
Which brings me to yet another 90’s top 10 list… but this time, it’s a list of songs that I’m convinced no one else remembers but me. Hopefully, after watching these videos, the light bulb will shine through some other music lovers heads as the memories of the early and late 90’s come flooding back. Or maybe I’m just crazy.
1. K’s Choice- Not An Addict
Out of out the 90’s forgotten about songs, this is most likely the one that some people might remember. What an amazing song. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever heard. It’s mostly just a bass line along with great female vocals, but the melody to it is so emotional and real. Hopefully if anyone has forgotten it, they’ll be glad I refreshed their memory.
2. God Lives Underwater- All Wrong
Another great 90’s rock song that disappeared off the planet. This one is loud and filled with all sorts of obscure humming noises in the background, but it rocks. It was actually one of my first CD’s.
3. Howlin’ Maggie- I’m a Slut
This song just proves my point: NO ONE REMEMBERS IT DAMMIT! It drives me insane because you’d think a song titled “I’m a Slut” would stay fresh in everyone’s memory because that’s such a strange title, especially for a male vocalist. Most people remember their other song “Alcohol” instead. (Sigh.)
4. Local H- Bound for the Floor
This was another song that was quite popular for a while, so some 90’s fanatic may remember it, but it’s rare that you ever hear it played on the radio anymore. Even though the entire song is sung in the same monotone, it’s actually pretty catchy.
5. Green Apple Quick Step- Dizzy
Does anyone remember HUH Magazine? I do. I subscribed to it and they sent me a compilation CD with Green Apple Quick Step’s “Dizzy” on it, which was a popular song at the time. Apparently, it’s not so popular anymore as the video isn’t even on youtube. They also had another great song, “Los Vargos” with a female backup vocalist. Here’s both of the videos, so maybe someone other than me will remember them.

6. Patti Rothberg- Inside
Okay, I’m going to put money on it that no one remembers Patti Rothberg. No one. Little ol’ Patti with her 90’s highlights strumming on her acoustic guitar. I loved this song when I was fourteen, but now it sounds a bit cheesy. I can actually see why no one would want to remember it.
7. Magnapop- Open the Door
If anyone remembers this song, I will fall off my chair because it’s such a great song that NO ONE REMEMBERS. It’s a fun, dancy bubbly song, except for the fact that she says all of her friends are dying. Hmm. I guess in the 90’s, that morbid stuff was sort of cool though.
8. Sneaker Pimps; 6 Underground
This song rocked! I actually still hear it on the radio once in a great while, but it seems to have been forgotten about for the most part.
9. Superdrag- Sucked out
This is actually a songs that a lot of people remember once they hear it. It’s a fun song that sounds a bit like a commercial theme song, but in a good way. The video reminds me of Weezer’s “Buddy Holly” because of the 50’s retro theme.
10. Ash- Girl From Mars
This is another song that was cool when you were fourteen, but listening to it now makes you shake your head and say “I really thought this song was good?” The singer sounds a bit like Daniel Johns from Silverchair with the Australian accent, but altogether it’s a pretty upbeat song that makes you want to dance around your room. And I swear, the little girl in this video looks like she could be Jessica Alba as a child.
