I never realized how much of a politician Eddie Vedder was until arriving at Pearl Jam’s last show of their 2008 tour on Monday night. As soon as I entered the Comcast Center parking lot, two men dressed up in cow suits approached us with applications to register to vote, stating the band was encouraging everyone to sign up to vote for the 2008 election. After years of struggling to get mainstream recognition and the opportunity to sign with a record label, SKA band Less Than Jake severed their relationship with Sire Records and Warner Brothers, by asking for and being granted their release from the label on March 21, 2007. Less Than Jake in turn started their independent label Sleep It Off (which is named after their song Sleep it off from the B-side of the 2004 album B is for B-sides) and put out City of Gainesville on June 24, 2008, which is also the birthday of lead vocalist and guitarist Chris Demakes. Ok, I admit it: I absolutely love Stevie Wonder. Considering the fact that I’m only twenty-five, most people think his music is slightly “before my time,” but I happen to disagree. I not only love his mixture of beautiful ballads and catchy, radio-friendly tunes, but also the fact that, even after all these years, he still knows how to deliver. Read more
